DISTRICT EARNS SECOND ENERGY STAR LEADERS AWARD

Mercer County Schools have earned our second ENERGY STAR Leaders award in less than a year, this time for reaching 20% overall energy reduction across all our facilities. Mercer is only the second school district in the state of Kentucky to reach this important milestone. Being designated as an ENERGY STAR Leader means that we are doing our part for the environment, but it also means big savings! Since the beginning of the energy management program in July 2010, Mercer County Schools have saved $180,000 by changing utility rates, getting control of heating and cooling costs, and making sure to turn off lights and appliances when they are not needed. As a result, our schools are using less energy than ever, and Mercer County Senior High School was certified as an ENERGY STAR School in 2011.
